Collision Investigations Update (Release No. 2007-252 And 2007-291)

Following investigations by Saskatoon Police Service Collision Analysts it has been determined that no charges will be laid in a bus/pedestrian collision on June 24, 2007 or in a two vehicle collision which occurred on July 24, 2007.
At approximately 12:00 p.m. on June 24, 2007 a 72 year old man was struck by a Saskatoon Transit bus has he crossed 23rd Street at the bus mall. The man died later in hospital. Collision Analysts were unable to conclude exactly what happened based on the physical evidence. They believe the pedestrian may have been in a blind spot and the driver was unable to see him.
Just before 12:00 p.m. on July 24th, a collision occurred at the intersection of 12th Street and Clarence Avenue between a Saskatoon Transit bus and an SUV. The bus driver was the only occupant of the bus at the time. A 9 year old boy and a 65 year old woman in the SUV were injured. The woman continues to suffer from the injuries she sustained. During their investigation officers recreated the collision sequence, interviewed witnesses and assessed physical evidence from the SUV and bus. They have determined that the bus had a green traffic light at the time of the collision and the SUV did not stop for a red light. (Occ no. 2007-69848)
During the course of both investigations Collision Analysts met with those involved and their families, along with Saskatoon Transit to keep all parties informed of the process.
