Arrest Made In Child Death From Dec. 11, 2006

March 26, 2008 at 00:53 a 26 year old female from Saskatoon was arrested by Patrol Officers at a residence in the 200 block Ave. S South. She had a warrant for arrest charging her with Criminal Negligence causing death and failure to supply the necessaries of life to a child under 16 years of age. She will make her first court appearance this morning at 10:00 in Provincial Court Room #1.

December 11, 2006 at 1:53 pm, Saskatoon Police attended an apartment block 800 Appleby drive in response to a deceased child. At the residence Shatoya Cheyenne Chatelaine age 17 months was found deceased. Major Crime investigators were called in to investigate as the child appeared to be suffering from mal nutrition and suspicious injuries were also observed on the child.

At autopsy the examination showed evidence of malnutrition and physical abuse consisting of broken ribs and various contusions on the body. Final autopsy results indicate untreated infection as the cause of death.

On Dec. 11, 2006 a joint investigation was initiated by the Major Crime Section, Coroner’s office and Social Services regarding this unfortunate death.
