At approximately 11:30 PM on Wednesday June 18, 2008 Saskatoon Police were called to the scene of an assault in progress in the 100 block of Avenue U South. A male suspect, accompanied by a female, was observed assaulting another female by witnesses who contacted police.
Upon arrival, the male suspect was identified and an attempt was made to take him into custody. He pushed the arresting officer away and fled on foot, but was apprehended by the officer only moments later.
As the investigation unfolded, it was learned that the same two suspects were responsible for a Home Invasion in the 100 block of Avenue O South that had occurred just prior to the reported assault on Avenue U South.
Victims at the Home Invasion were a 31 year old female and a 13 year old male who sustained minor injuries. The 19 year old victim of the assault also sustained minor injuries.
The 22 year old male is in custody and faces charges of Break, Enter and Commit the Indictable offense of Assault, Common Assault, Assault with Intent to Resist Arrest and Assaulting a Police Officer. He is also the subject of several outstanding warrants for his arrest. The 16 year old female youth is also in custody and will face a charge of Break, Enter and Commit the Indictable offense of Assault.
Both will appear in court tomorrow morning to answer to the charges.
