Law Enforcement And SGI Working Together To Make Roads Safer

Law Enforcement Agencies from across the province were in Saskatoon conducting roadside checks for seatbelt use.

The Multi Agency Seat Belt Team (MASTeam) is made up of all enforcement agencies in the province committed to improve road safety in Saskatchewan. The focus of MASTeam's work is seat belt enforcement. These law enforcement teams, in conjunction with SGI, held safety check stops in and around Saskatoon June 25th and 26th.

Officers issued 280 tickets for seatbelt violations, 14 tickets for other Traffic Safety Act charges, 12 arrests made on outstanding warrants, and one vehicle was impounded.

Law Enforcement agencies involved in the MASTeam include the RCMP, officers from municipal police services in Saskatoon, Regina, Prince Albert, Moose Jaw, Estevan, CN Police, and the CP Police. The MASTeam will be conducting these roadside checks in other cities across the province during the remainder of 2008.

Seatbelt enforcement still remains a priority for all law enforcement agencies to ensure vehicle occupants remain buckled up and stay safe.
