Arrest Made In Child Homicide Investigation From Sept. 25, 2007

A 26 year old female was arrested in Saskatoon today at 2:43 p.m. regarding the death of the 7 month old child on Sept. 27, 2007.

The accused will be appearing in Provincial Court Room #1 at 10:00 a.m., January 16th, 2008, charged with 2nd degree murder in regard to the death of Corona Florence Genaille, date of birth Feb.10, 2007.

On September 25th, at 11:30 a.m., Police responded to the Royal University Hospital regarding a child with suspicious, life threatening injuries. The child was brought into RUH by MD ambulance from a residence in the 700 block of Avenue N South at approximately 9:00 a.m. that morning.

On September 27th, 2007 at 1:37 p.m. the 7 month old child died in hospital.

Preliminary autopsy results indicated blunt force trauma to the head was the cause of death.

After completing their investigation, Major Crime Investigators consulted with the Crown Prosecutor’s office and it was determined a charge of 2nd degree murder was appropriate.
