Just prior to 3:00 PM on Friday, July 18, 2007, Saskatoon Police, MD Ambulance and Saskatoon Fire and Protective Services responded to a Van vs. Bicycle collision in the 3500 block of Fairlight Drive.
Investigator's at the scene learned that a 20 year old female had been riding a bicycle on the sidewalk east bound at the above location. A second female was on the handlebars of the bicycle at the time.
A 38 year old male driving a mini-van was exiting a parking lot and was focused on traffic coming from the east. It appears he did not see the bicycle or it's riders. As he was beginning to cross the sidewalk, the bicycle rider veered in an attempt to avoid a collision, but was unable to do so. The impact occurred at very low speed, but there was enough momentum to knock the bicycle and it's riders over causing minor injuries to the operator.
She was transported to Royal University Hospital by MD Ambulance with injuries to her left side that are non-life threatening.
The investigation will continue until it is determined if any charges are appropriate in this matter.
