A number of charges have been laid or are pending in three separate firearms related incidents that occurred yesterday.
At approximately 4:00 p.m. the Emergency Response Team surrounded a home in the 1600 block of 2nd Avenue North. Officers were executing a public safety warrant on behalf of Drumheller RCMP. The 40 year old male resident of the home turned himself into Police a short time later. No one was injured during the incident. Following a search of the home police found a 9 mm handgun and an AK47 assault rifle. Weapons charges are pending. The male is also facing charges in Alberta.
At approximately 5:30 p.m. the Saskatoon Police Service executed a search of farms in the Rosthern and Grandora areas and a search of a vehicle in Rosthern as part of an theft investigation. Eleven long rifles and 2 handguns were seized. A 28 year old Saskatoon man is facing two charges of weapons trafficking. Further charges are pending. He is scheduled to appear in Provincial Court today. (2008-26920)
In the third incident a 40 year old Saskatoon man is facing firearms related charges following a call to a home in the 2800 block of 20th Street West. A neighbour called police at approximately 4:30 p.m. to report seeing a man with a handgun. When officers arrived they found it was not a handgun. However the male did produce a sawed off shot-gun from his garage. (2008-76652)
