Car Vs. Pedestrian Collision Results In Police Officer Being Injured

Just before 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 10, 2008, a 31 year old female Saskatoon Police Officer was struck by a westbound vehicle in the 500 block of 20th Street West.

The Constable and her partner were attending a call for service at that location when the vehicle driven by a 60 year old male passed by. The proximity of the oncoming vehicle forced the Officer towards her marked Police vehicle in an attempt to avoid being hit directly by the car. As she turned to avoid the collision, her right hand and wrist were struck by the passenger side mirror of the vehicle. She was treated and released from hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the vehicle has been charged under the Traffic Safety Act for Driving Without Due Care and Attention.

Motorists are asked to please drive safely, and are reminded to watch for persons who may be entering or exiting their vehicles on the sides of the roadway and provide them with sufficient room to do so safely.
