On 2008-09-07 at 1230, Police attended the intersection of Argyle Ave and 7th St. to investigate a collision involving a car and a gas powered motorized bicycle. As a result of the collision, a 76 year old male who was operating the motorized bicycle sustained non-life threatening head injuries. He was later charged under the Traffic Safety Act for Failing to Yield.
Police remind the public that most gas powered motorized bicycles are not approved for road use as they do not meet basic safety standards, and therefore cannot be lawfully operated on public streets. Many of these vehicles are capable of speeds up to 70 km/h. The public is encouraged to check with the proper authorities before operating similar gas powered motorized bicycles on the roadway.
