Canine Track And Foot Pursuit Lead To Apprehension Of Break & Enter Suspect

A 24 year old male is in custody after breaking into two garages in the Westmount and Caswell Hill neighborhoods between 10:45 PM and 11:30 PM on Wednesday, October 15, 2008.

Police responded to a complaint of a suspicious person in the 800 block of Avenue K North at approximately 10:45 PM last night. A witness then told Police that the person had broken into their garage and was inside their vehicle. A description of the suspect was given and shortly thereafter a Police Canine Team arrived on the scene and began to track the suspect to the north.

A second call was received from a complainant in the1100 block of Avenue L North about a male breaking in to a garage at that location matching the general description of the first suspect. Police units cordoned off the area and then collapsed inwards towards the last known sighting when the male suspect was seen by an officer and pursued on foot. He was apprehended in the 1100 block of Avenue J North.

The Police Canine team was able to track the suspect right to the location where the suspect had been apprehended, connecting him to both Break & Enters.

The male will appear in Provincial Court on Thursday morning to face two charges of Break and Enter, one charge of Carry a Concealed Weapon and two charges of Breach of Undertaking.
