Tips For A Safe Halloween

The Saskatoon Police Service would like to remind parents, caregivers, children and motorists to make safety a priority this Halloween.

Please consider the following safety tips:

-Make sure younger children are accompanied by an adult while trick-or-treating.

-Older children should trick-or-treat in groups.

-Know the route your children will be taking and when they will be home. Routes should be well lit.

-Children should carry flashlights, glow sticks or wear reflective tape to make them more visible.

-Instruct children not to eat their treats until they arrive home and an adult has had a chance to examine them. Avoid homemade treats and throw away anything that looks suspicious.

-Do not trick-or-treat by yourself.

-Wear a costume that makes it easy for you to walk and be seen by others.

-Cross only at corners and in crosswalks, and obey traffic signals.

-Stay on well lit streets.

-Never go into a strangers home or get into a strangers car.

-Wait until you get home before eating any treats.

-Drive slowly and cautiously.

-Keep alert for children crossing the street.

-Avoid distractions like cell phones, while driving.

-Never drink and drive.

Have a Happy Halloween.
