Canada-wide warrants have been issued for two men believed to be involved in a driveway paving scam which took place in Saskatoon and several other locations.
The warrants, for 47 year old Michael White, and 47 year old Martin Goodwin, were issued by the Durham Regional Police following complaints of fraud between May and July, 2008. It's believed the two are the ringleaders of a larger group which approached residents at their homes offering low cost driveway paving. The men, using the business names Belcon Construction and Hiway Maintenance, claimed to have leftover asphalt from a nearby job. The suspects would pave the victim's driveway and charge an inflated amount for the job. In many cases in Ontario the victims were elderly and were pressured into paying the high amounts.
The Saskatoon Police Service has received at least one complaint which is similar in nature. However the suspects left the city before Investigators could lay charges. There has been evidence of similar scams in Alberta.
