Business Beware - Counterfeit Money

The Saskatoon Police Service Fraud Section is advising businesses in Saskatoon to be on the lookout for counterfeit American money.

A 21 year old man was arrested and charged in mid-February with passing counterfeit money. Mohsson Raza Mohammad will appear in Provincial Court again on March 20th, at 1:30 p.m. He was arrested after trying to pass four 100$ U.S. bills at a computer store.

Since that time further reports have been received by Police regarding counterfeit U.S. 100$ and 50$ bills. On at least six occasions in February someone tried to pass or was successful in passing the bills at a variety of businesses throughout the City. Investigators believe its either a case of someone else fraudulently passing the bills, or simply that the person passing them was not aware they were counterfeit and still in circulation.

Business owners are asked to use caution when accepting these denominations of U.S. bills. If there is a suspicion the bill is counterfeit, businesses are asked to contact the Saskatoon Police Service as soon as possible at 975-8300.
