Patrol Gave Ident The Finger

At approx. 5:00 PM on April 11, Saskatoon Police Service attended to the rear of a business in the 300 Blk 2nd Ave N. where what appeared to be a mummified human finger had been found.

Patrol members turned the finger over to the Forensic Identification Section who was able to obtain enough fingerprint detail to identify the finger through a fingerprint data base.

On December 29, 2008 at 2:45 AM, the owner of the finger a 46 year old male had been found in the 400 Blk 3rd Ave N. with the injury and missing his left index finger. At that time he was too intoxicated to give Police with any information as to how or where it had happen and was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment. Investigation at that time could only reveal that he had been involved in a fight and the other person could not be identified. He had also been seen on a fire escape in the 300 Blk 2nd Ave N. A search of the area did not reveal the missing digit.

The owner of the finger has been advised of the find but unfortunately the finger does not point to any further information, the file remains closed.
