At approx. 7:00 PM Saskatoon Police Service were advised by the RCMP that they were attempting to catch a 1/2 ton truck northbound on Hwy 11 towards the city from the south. While en route to intercept the vehicle before it reached the city, a Saskatoon Police Service marked unit lost control on the merge lane to go southbound on Hwy 11 and caught the soft shoulder causing it to roll onto its roof. The lone constable in the vehicle was shaken up but not seriously injured in the accident.
Although the RCMP had lost sight of the 1/2 ton and with the description given, another SPS vehicle located the vehicle as it exited the Freeway on the 1st Ave exit. The SPS vehicle did not take up a pursuit but kept it under surveillance as it drove northbound on 1st Ave at a high rate of speed and through red lights. At 2nd Ave and 33rd St a marked Police car attempted to pull the 1/2 ton over as it went westbound on 33rd St. As they reached Quebec Ave the Eagle was in position to watch the vehicle and the marked unit quit pursuing as they reached Idywyld Dr. The Eagle continued to watch the 1/2 ton as it drove erratically and at high speeds until the driver abandoned the vehicle in a park at Ave U and Rusholme Rd. As the driver fled on foot the Eagle was able to direct ground units who apprehended the driver in the 200 Blk of Ave T N.
