Busy Friday Night For Emergency Services

At approximately 9:10 PM Police responded to a report of a Domestic Disturbance in the 200 block of Avenue H South. Upon arrival, a 30 year old male suspect fled the scene on a bicycle and eventually made his way to a lane perpendicular to 22nd Street near Idylwyld Drive. Still fleeing from police, the male rode right out onto 22nd Street and into the side of an SUV. He was not injured, but was arrested on outstanding Warrants, charged with Criminal Code Breaches of Court Orders and received two charges under the Traffic Safety Act.

At 9:30 PM two children aged 8 and 9 years old ran out into the street at Ruth Street and St. Patrick Avenue and were struck by a passing vehicle. The children received only very minor injuries, and no charges are pending.

At 11:00 PM Police were called to the Exhibition Grounds where a 21 year old male working on the Midway had been injured when he was struck by a part of the ride he was working at. He was taken to hospital with serious but undetermined injuries. The incident is under investigation by Occupational Health and Safety members.

At 2:20 AM on Saturday morning two groups of individuals were engaged in a fight in the 600 block of 11th Street East, and several persons in both groups were exposed to Bear Spray. No arrests were made at the scene but Police did identify a number of individuals suspected to have been involved.

Police were kept very busy overnight with a variety of calls for service, and a total of 237 calls were dispatched in the preceding twelve hours.
