Saskatoon Police are investigating a collision early this morning that sent an officer and two motorists to hospital.
At approximately 2:00 a.m., Friday, August 14, 2009, officers were in the process of conducting a traffic stop at 2nd Avenue and Queen Street. A motorist had been pulled over and was sitting in the back of the police cruiser. At the same time, a northbound van, collided with a parked car approximately 30 meters south and then continued on, slamming into the back of the cruiser. As a result of the impact the police cruiser was pushed into the parked vehicle in front. Hearing the first collision, the officer standing behind the police cruiser was able to jump out of the way to avoid being struck.
A second constable suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital and released. The male in the back of the police cruiser also suffered what appear to be minor injuries and was taken to hospital. The driver of the van has been hospitalized with what appear to be non life-threatening injuries.
The investigation is continuing and charges are pending.
