Suspension Of Saskatoon Police Service Member

The Saskatoon Police Service has suspended a Constable with pay in connection with an alleged assault that occurred last fall.
Charged with assault is 26 year old Clayton Lazar, a two and a half year member of the Service. The alleged assault occurred during an arrest on September 6, 2008.
The Saskatoon Police Service Professional Standards Section in conjunction with the Provincial Complaints Investigator conducted an investigation which was forwarded to Saskatchewan Justice, Prosecutions Branch for review. The Prosecutions Branch has reviewed the file and recommended a charge of assault be laid.
The alleged action of Constable Lazar is also the subject of an investigation to determine if any breaches of discipline may have occurred pursuant to the Saskatchewan Police Act, 1990.
Cst. Lazar is scheduled to appear in Provincial Court on February 25th.
Chief of the Saskatoon Police Service Clive Weighill will be available to answer questions from the media at 3:00 p.m. at Saskatoon Police Service Headquarters.
