Just before midnight February 8, 2009, OnStar, the Prince Albert RCMP and the Saskatoon Police Service teamed up to apprehend a suspect in a stolen truck.
The truck was stolen from Prince Albert earlier in the evening. At approximately 11:25 p.m. OnStar called the Prince Albert RCMP who then set up a conference call with the Saskatoon Police Service. With OnStar's GPS technology, the location and direction of travel of the vehicle was transmitted to the Saskatoon Police and officers caught up with the vehicle a short time later when it stopped at Avenue P and 20th Street. The driver was arrested without incident. It is believed a passenger in the vehicle left the area just before police arrival.
A 22 year old male has been charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, drive while prohibited, and two counts of breach of probation. The man also had warrants for being unlawfully at large and breach of probation. He will appear in provincial court on these charges in the morning of February 9.
