Saskatoon Crime Stoppers would like to invite members of the media to speak with two students chosen to present a summary of events to the Board of Police Commissioners compiled from “Speak Out Saskatoon!” Kerry Brosnan of Holy Cross High School and Heidi Riley of Aden Bowman Collegiate will address the board on Tuesday, January 12, 2010, at City Hall at 1:30 p.m.
“Speak Out Saskatoon!” was held on Monday, November 23, 2009, from 8:45 am to 2:45 pm at Aden Bowman Collegiate.
The fourth of its kind, this youth forum provides high school students across Saskatoon the opportunity to meet and discuss issues faced by youth emphasizing the topic of safety within schools and their community. Students had a chance to learn from one another and find innovative solutions to their concerns. The event began with a key note address from Restorative Action Program Coordinator, Winston Blake, on “The Power of Voice”. At the end of the one day event (from 12:30 – 2:30 pm) students presented their comments and conclusions to a panel consisting of the Chief of Police and Superintendents representing both Saskatoon Public Schools and Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools. Each Saskatoon high school was represented by a diverse group of up to eight students for a total of 120 students participating.
For more information the media can contact Saskatoon Crime Stoppers, Police Coordinator, CST TishaRae Stonehouse at 220-3071.
Note * The students will be available upon the conclusion of their presentation to the Board of Police Commissioners.
