Saskatoon Police are investigating a robbery with violence involving a taxi driver which occurred in the early morning hours.
On Thursday, May 3, 2012, at approximately 4:00 a.m., officers responded to the University Bridge for a report of a robbery involving a taxi driver and his cab. Moments prior, the driver, a 49 year old man, picked up a couple from the 500 block of 5th Avenue N. While traveling east on the University Bridge the driver was forced to stop when the man continued to open and close the rear passenger door. When the driver exited the car the male suspect also got out and proceeded to assault the driver. The female remained in the car but positioned herself in the driver's seat. After the assault they both drove away abandoning the driver. They were last seen traveling south from the University Bridge.
The taxi has not been recovered. It is described as a silver, 2004, Chevrolet Malibu, with the number '39' on it. The license plate is S/L 660 HBX.
Police have identified two persons of interest in this case and continue to investigate.
