The Saskatoon Police Service is warning of a telephone immigration scam that is occurring in Saskatoon and across Canada. Callers contact the victim claiming to be from Citizenship and Immigration Canada and attempt to scare individuals by quoting laws the individual supposedly violated and threatening them with warrants for arrest, jail time, loss of immigration status and deportation if a fine is not paid.
Citizenship and Immigration Canada does not contact the public via phone and demand payments of any kind. If you have lost money from a scam such as this please contact the Saskatoon Police Service at 306-975-8300. Those who have been contacted in an attempted fraud may choose to make a report online at saskatoonpoliceservice.ca.
