A 26 year old man is facing a number of charges following an incident early this morning in which the driver of a stolen vehicle attempted to evade police.
At approximately 5:00 a.m., September 7, 2016, patrol officers spotted a vehicle which had been reported stolen after a break in to a home in the 100 block of Edinburgh Place just a few hours earlier. The officers attempted to stop the black Toyota Yaris near 31st Street and Avenue H, however the driver refused to stop. Instead the vehicle sped away from the officers before colliding minutes later with a building in the 400 block of 33rd Street West. The driver then fled the scene on foot. A canine unit responded to the scene and assisted in locating the 26 year old man hiding in a shed nearby.
The man is now facing charges of theft, evade police, break and enter and breach of court conditions. Further charges are pending.
