The 21-year-old man transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries after a vehicle tried to evade police on Sunday morning has succumbed to his injuries.
At approximately 4:20 a.m., October 23, 2016, Patrol Officers observed a vehicle known to be stolen in the area of Avenue V South and 17th Street. The vehicle was reported stolen on October 22, 2016, and at the time of the theft, a firearm and ammunition were also taken with the vehicle. Upon recognizing the stolen vehicle, Officers attempted a traffic stop however it immediately fled. A pursuit ensued. In an attempt to evade Police, the vehicle struck a fence on the north side of a school in the 100 block of Bowlt Crescent. Officers recovered four firearms and ammunition from the vehicle.
The driver, a 20-year-old male, was taken into custody at the scene. He is now facing charges of;
- Dangerous Driving Causing Death
- Evade Police Causing Death
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose (x4)
- Possession of Unauthorized Firearm (x4)
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle (x4)
- Possession of Firearm Contrary to Order (x4)
- Possession of Stolen Property Over $5000
- Breach of Probation (x2)
The male will be appearing in Provincial Court tomorrow morning. (Court Info #’s 44667952, 36658933).
Preliminary investigation shows that the 21-year-old male passenger was fatally injured as a result of the collision.
The Criminal Investigation Section is continuing to investigate and oversight has been appointed by Saskatchewan Justice.
