Saskatoon Police are continuing their investigation into five suspicious packages that were delivered to various locations earlier this afternoon.
Police received the first report of an envelope containing an unknown substance to a restaurant in the 400 block of 21st Street East at 12:23 p.m. Over the next two hours, four similar reports followed at; a business in the 400 block of 21st Street East, a hotel in the 300 block of Circle Drive North, a second hotel in the 600 block of Cynthia Street and a business in the 200 block of 4th Avenue South.
Members of SPS Patrol assisted the Saskatoon Fire Department Hazmat and Decontamination Teams, the Ministry of Environment, and MD Ambulance in the immediate response. Initial testing of the substances has determined four to be sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and the fifth was talcum powder. There were no reported injuries and there is no danger to public safety.
Traffic restrictions that were in place for most of the afternoon have since been lifted. We thank the public for their patience and understanding.
As a result of the Police investigation, two adult females and an adult male are in Police custody and facing five charges each of Public Mischief, Mischief and Utter Threats to Cause Bodily Harm. Investigators believe all persons involved are in custody.
