On December 8, 2016 at approximately 6:30 p.m., Patrol Officers observed a suspicious vehicle at a motel in the 600 block of Idylwyld Drive North. A traffic stop was conducted.
While conducting the vehicle stop, the Officers heard a single gunshot, which, based on evidence at the scene, is believed to have been directed towards Police.
At the direction of Officers, the civilian driver moved their vehicle to safety.
Officers took cover at their patrol vehicle until the Police Rescue Vehicle was able to help move them to safety.
Residents of 16 rooms at the motel were detained by police with the assistance of the Gangs and Guns Unit and Tactical Support Unit as they investigated this incident. They were relocated to city transit buses while police investigated. 17 people were detained during the investigation.
No Officers or civilians were injured.
At 1:30 a.m. the incident concluded and detained residents were allowed to return to their rooms. No suspect has been identified and a firearm was not located.
A 25-year-old female was found to be in possession of .22 caliber bullets, an axe, a knife and methamphetamine. She has been charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and 2 counts of Possession of a Dangerous Weapon.
A 25-year-old man was also arrested and charged with Obstruction and Breach of a Court Order.
They appeared in court this morning.
No one has been charged in relation to the shot fired at Police. The investigation is ongoing.
