Five people are facing a number of charges following incidents involving stolen vehicles two of which evaded police.
Beginning on February 10, 2017, at approximately 10 p.m., Police spotted a stolen 2005 Ford F150 at 21st Street and Avenue P South. The officers attempted a traffic stop, however the driver refused to stop and evaded police. Officers discontinued their pursuit after a short distance and located the vehicle a few minutes later, abandoned in the 300 block of Vancouver Avenue. The suspects were not located.
On February 11, 2017, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Patrol Officers spotted a stolen 2014 Ford F150 and conducted a high-risk traffic stop in the 100 block of Avenue O South. The vehicle was also believed to have been involved in a robbery earlier in the day. One of the three occupants inside the vehicle, a 15 year old Saskatoon boy, fled on foot and was located by a Canine team. Two other people, a 34 year old man and a 26 year old woman, both from Prince Albert, were also taken into custody. The three are facing a number of charges.
On February 12, 2017, at approximately 5:30 p.m. a Patrol Officer at 18th Street West and Avenue R spotted a 2011 Volkswagen Golf which had been reported stolen. A traffic stop was conducted and two Saskatoon men, ages 25 and 43 were arrested. Both are facing charges of Possession of Stolen Property. One was also wanted on outstanding warrants.
Subject: Evade Police - Air Support Unit assists in arrest
On February 12, 2017 at approximately 2:40 a.m. in the area of 18 St. & Av R, a police K-9 officer spotted a stolen SUV. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver took evasive action driving at high rates of speed. The Air Support Unit followed the vehicle, while on the ground a tire deflation device was deployed but was unsuccessful. The suspect abandoned the car and fled from it. The Air Support Unit observed the male and was able to direct ground units to apprehend the male.
A 40 year old man is charged with failing to stop for police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, driving while prohibited and possession of stolen property valued over $5000.00.
The man will appear before a Justice of the Peace on Sunday.
