Saskatoon Man Arrested After 5 Hour Standoff - 3800 Block John A. MacDonald Rd.

A 28 year old man is in custody after a 5 hour standoff with Police on Friday evening. Just after 5:00 PM members of the Saskatoon Police Service Guns and Gangs Unit arrived at a residence in the 3800 block of John A. MacDonald Rd. Police had a warrant for the arrest of the man as a result of an assault that took place back on January 12th of this year. Officers were met with an uncooperative man who refused to come out of his home and eventually began barricading the door with furniture. Patrol officers and SPS Crisis Negotiators were dispatched to the scene.

Police negotiators were able to make contact with the suspect, however the situation escalated to a point where the man armed himself with a large butcher knife. Police continued negotiations and the SPS Tactical Support Unit was called in due to there being weapons involved. After several hours of further negotiation, the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody just after 10:30 PM. There were no injuries as a result of the incident.
