Two persons have been arrested following an investigation into an armed robbery earlier this morning.
At approximately 4:20 a.m., February 21, 2017, Patrol Officers responded to the armed robbery of a convenience store in the 3700 block of Diefenbaker Drive. A lone male was reported to have entered the store with a handgun, demanding cash and cigarettes. He fled the store and was observed getting into a waiting vehicle. As the vehicle fled the scene, it drove in the direction of a person outside the store, nearly striking her. The witness also described that the suspect discharged his firearm into the air. Patrol officers located the vehicle in the 3300 block of Centennial Drive and conducted a high risk traffic stop where two people were arrested without incident. A firearm was located inside the vehicle.
No one was injured during the incident.
A 37-year-old man and a 38-year-old man are both charged with; Use of Firearm in Commission of Offence, Careless Use of Firearm (x2), Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, Carry Concealed Weapon, Robbery with Firearm, Assault with a Weapon and Conceal Identity in Commission of Offence.
The 38-year-old faces additional charges of Obstruction, Breach of Conditional Sentence (x2) and Breach of Probation.
The investigation is ongoing.
