Traffic Offence Leads To Numerous Crimainal Charges -

Police have 5 people in custody after a minor traffic related offense resulted in numerous criminal charges. Just before 11:00 PM Sunday night a Patrol officer working in the Westmount neighborhood, queried a vehicle on one of the police databases and found that there were indications the vehicle may be operated by a person with no valid drivers license. The officer activated his roof-top lights in an effort to perform a traffic stop. The operator of the vehicle in question accelerated and attempted to evade police. It was not necessary for the Patrol officer to persue, as the Air Support Unit (ASU) was overhead watching.

The Air Support Unit continued to observe the offending vehicle, following it to 33rd St W at Ave. W where the 6 occupants abandon the car and ran in various directions. Patrol officers along with a canine team flooded the area with ASU continuing to direct from above. Five of 6 suspects were eventually rounded up and arrested. A loaded .22 rifle and a small amount of methamphetamine was recovered during the investigation.

A 38 year old female, 25 year old male, two 16 year old males and a 14 year old female, all from Saskatoon are facing various offenses including weapon and drug related charges. They will be in court later this morning.

Police continue to look for the 6th suspect. Anyone with any information regarding this incident is asked to call the Saskatoon Police Service at 306-975-8300 or Saskatoon Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477
