The Saskatoon Police Service is continuing to investigate an incident in which a device exploded just after 11:00 p.m, March 29, 2017, in front of provincial court building at 19th Street and 3rd Avenue.
The initial investigation located an improvised device. It is important to note however, that Improvised Explosive Device is a technical term for a homemade explosive and, in this case, made from readily accessible materials. The public normally hears of improvised devices in situations at an international level. Although this device falls under the definition it would be considered at the low end of the spectrum.
The SPS is working with the courts and has increased it's police presence at court facilities in an effort to address concerns regarding public safety. We want to encourage the public to be aware but not afraid. We would like them to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Anyone with information is asked to contact the SPS at 306-975-8300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
Updates will be provided when further information becomes available.
