Police have been kept very busy with almost 200 calls to service by mid-day today. 22 Criminal Code charges and 4 Youth Criminal Justice Act charges have been laid pertaining to one call resulting in the seizure of methamphetamine, firearms and ammunition.
In the early morning hours of April 1, 2017 police attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle in the 800 block of Avenue C North. The vehicle briefly evaded police, came to a stop and two males fled on foot. The female driver was arrested, drugs, a firearms and ammunition were found in the vehicle. A high risk canine track led to a residence in the area and a second person detained for investigative purposes.
A 24 year old female has been arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of marihuana, fail to stop for police, possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace and seven firearms related charges.
A 17 year old male youth has been identified but remains at large and warrants are being requested for possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of marihuana, nine firearms related charges and four charges under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
With the assistance of the Guns and Gangs Unit, a third suspect is being investigated and further charges are likely to follow. The criminal activity is believed to be gang related.
