CEW Deployment - Break And Enter Suspect In Custody.

A 23 year old Saskatoon man was transported to hospital via MD Ambulance this morning after a Saskatoon Police Service member deployed a conducted energy weapon (CEW).

On April 2, 2017 at approximately 3:30 A.M., Police attended to the 1900 block of 22nd Street West responding to a break and enter in progress.

Upon arrival police located the suspect barricaded in the bathroom of the victim’s residence. Officers attempted to negotiate surrender however the suspect attempted to spray bleach at officers and threatened to light fire to the building. The male was believed to have access to an edged weapon, he stated that he had committed self-harm and was bleeding profusely. The male became less coherent and eventually unresponsive, police fearing they needed to render assistance forced entry. The male lunged at officers breaching the door, the CEW was deployed and the suspect was taken into custody.

The man faces charges of break and enter, mischief and other criminal charges. There were no obvious signs of injury as a result of the CEW deployment, the male was released from hospital and remains in police custody.
