Stolen vehicles continue to be a concern for the Saskatoon Police Service. Much of the time the vehicles are being taken with the keys left inside or nearby, making it easy for thieves, and that number has increased so far in 2017. As of March 30, 2017, 59% of stolen vehicles were taken with the keys inside or with the doors left unlocked. In 2016 that number was 51%.
To better determine citizen's perspectives on stolen vehicles the Saskatoon Police Service launched an online survey last fall. Approximately 1400 respondents took part in the survey and provided useful information that will help to shape future prevention and enforcement strategies.
The media is invited to join us today as we review the results at SPS Headquarters, Media Room, at 2:00 p.m.
