Following eight weeks of hard work, members of the Cadet Orientation Police Studies (C.O.P.S.) program are being recognized in a graduation ceremony this morning.
The program is a collaboration between the SPS, the Saskatoon Public School Board and the Greater Saskatoon Catholic School Board, with assistance from the Kiwanis Club of Saskatoon. It is designed to develop stronger relationships between police and students, as well as bridge ethnic and socioeconomic gaps within our community. Interested Grade 11 and 12 students from Mount Royal Collegiate, Bedford Road Collegiate, and E.D. Feehan High School were encouraged to take part in the application process, including the development of a resume, references, an essay, an interview and background checks. Of the 36 applications 14 were chosen for the program, which is recognized as a high school credit. The students were issued uniforms and are learning about all aspects of policing.
The media is invited to join us at 10:30 a.m., April 13, 2017 in the SPS gymnasium, to recognize the achievements of these cadets.
