The Saskatoon Police Traffic Unit will be conducting a high visibility check stop this evening.
The check stop, funded SGI, is part of year-round initiative to combat incidents of impaired driving. Officers will be set up from 7:00 - 11:00 p.m. at an undisclosed high traffic location. Motorists are asked to follow Officers' instructions when in a check stop area.
While check stops do not normally result in high numbers of impaired driving charges, they are effective tools in education and raise public awareness around impaired driving. So far in 2017, there have been over over 110 charges relating to impaired driving.
To further raise awareness, the SPS Traffic Unit will be live tweeting activities at the check stop. The public is encouraged to follow them: @SPSTraffic (https://twitter.com/spstraffic).
