Evade Police - Successful Canine Track
SPS Canine Unit assisted in making an arrest following an Evade Police event last night.
At Approximately 3:30 a.m., May 24, 2017, a canine officer driving in the area of 20th St. W and Ave. P S, witnessed a woman nearly get run over as a vehicle she was getting into, sped away erratically. The officer activated the emergency equipment in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle refused to pull over and evaded police. The vehicle was also found to have been reported stolen.
The officer then successfully deployed a tire deflation device at 37th St. W and Ave. C. After driving on deflated tires for several blocks, the suspect abandoned the vehicle and evaded police on foot. The vehicle was found to have been stolen.
A canine track was successful in locating the suspect hiding in a front yard in the 1800 block of 2nd Ave. N.
MD Ambulance treated the suspect’s minor injuries from the canine bite. The suspect, a 31 year old male, was taken into custody and charged with Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Fail to Stop for Police, Possession of Stolen Property over $5000, Breach of Probation, Breach of Undertaking and Breach of Recognizance.
