SPS Respond To Early Morning Evade Police Incidents

Shortly after 12:30 a.m., May 30, 2017, a Patrol Officer spotted a stolen vehicle . The officer witnessed the vehicle quickly turn off Idylwyld onto Jamieson Street. The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the suspect vehicle refused to stop and evaded Police.

Another officer attempted to use a tire deflation device at Avenue M and 22nd Street W, but it was unsuccessful in debilitating the suspect vehicle.

Police disengaged due to public safety concerns.

The suspect vehicle, a white Toyota RAV4, was last seen on Rusholme Road. The suspect driver is described to be a male in his late teens/early twenties, wearing a black hat, and dark clothing. There were also two passengers in the vehicle.

The second incident occurred at 3:30 a.m., May 30, 2017, when Patrol Officers spotted a suspicious vehicle in a parking lot in the 1000 block of Matheson Drive. The vehicle was found to have been stolen with a stolen license plate on it.

Officers continued to observe the vehicle drive erratically before it came to an abrupt stop at Laurier Drive and Diefenbaker Drive, causing the Patrol Cruiser to rear-end the vehicle. The suspects continued to evade police, driving towards Mowat Crescent. Officers activated their emergency equipment as public safety became a greater concern.

The suspect vehicle then struck a truck parked on the street. A passenger exited and was arrested without incident. The driver attempted to flee on foot but was arrested by a Canine Officer after he was found hiding in a yard in the 300 block of Mowat Crescent.

The 19-year-old male was charged with Dangerous Driving, Evade Police and Possession of Stolen Property over $5000. He was also arrested on outstanding warrants.

The 17-year-old male passenger was charged with Breach of Undertaking, Breach of Probation and Possession of Stolen Property over $5000.
