Saskatoon Police Officers deployed a conducted energy weapon last night during their attempts to arrest a man for uttering threats.
Shortly after 11:00 p.m., July 19, 2017, members of the Guns and Gangs Unit attended to a residence in the 500 block of Whitewood Crescent in response to an uttering threats investigation. There was also information that a firearm may be in the residence. Upon arrival, the subject of the investigation was informed he was under arrest. In response, the suspect picked up a hammer and began swinging it at Officers. A physical struggle ensued and then a conducted energy weapon was deployed, and with the assistance of Patrol Officers the suspect was taken into custody.
The suspect was checked by MD Ambulance personnel but did not require further treatment. Two officers sustained minor injuries during the arrest.
Further investigation found a hidden shotgun and ammunition in the residence.
The 28-year-old man is charged with; Utter Threats (x2), Assault (x2), Possession of a Dangerous Weapon (x2), Prohibited Possession of Firearm, Prohibited Possession of Ammunition, Unauthorized Possession of Firearm, Careless Storage of Firearm, and Breach of Probation. (Court Info # 991019660).
