The Saskatoon Police Service now have a 42 year old male in custody in relation to this event.
At approximately 6:27 a.m., on September 4, 2017 police conducted a traffic stop with a vehicle in the 1700 block of 11th Street West. While dealing with the vehicle stop, police observed a 42 year old man who is known to police in the doorway of a nearby home. This male was wanted for Escaping Lawful Custody and offences relating to being in possession of illegal cigarettes (Tobacco Tax Act Section 8(1), 27(2) and 27(5) and Section 32(1) 216(2) of The Excise Act), as well as breaching his court imposed conditions. Police attempted speak with the individual but he refused to come out of the residence.
Members of the Crisis Negotiation Team attempted to make contact with the individual but received no response. At 9:58 p.m., police entered the residence with a Canine Unit and found the suspect hiding in a storage closet. He was taken into custody without incident.
Traffic restrictions have been lifted.
Saskatoon Police are currently on scene of a barricaded person in the 1700 Block of 11th Street West. Vehicle and foot traffic will be restricted until the situation can be resolved. Motorists and Pedestrians are requested to avoid the area until further notice.
