Through a series of check stops over the holidays, the Saskatoon Police Service checked over 2,800 vehicles for impaired driving.
As a result of the four check stops, there were two charges of Impaired Driving/Exceed .08, seven 72-hour suspension charges and two refuse breath tests. Other penalties included;
- 8 vehicles impounded
- 5 drive while suspended
- 3 tickets for Liquor in vehicle
While check stops do not normally result in high numbers of impaired driving charges, they are effective tools in education and raise public awareness around being responsible in finding a safe ride home after drinking.
Saskatoon Police wish to thank the RCMP 'F' Division, Corman Park Police Service and Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan (CTSS) for their assistance in the checkstops.
