At approximately 12:58 a.m., on October 2nd, 2017 police were called to a residence in the 1400 block of Avenue M South by a 78 year old female who stated she awoke to find an unknown male in her bed. The male suspect attempted to sexually assault the victim but she fought him and he left the residence. Police responded and a K9 unit quickly located the shirtless, male suspect walking nearby. He refused to comply with the officer’s commands to stop and went out of sight. The officer then deployed his police service dog who apprehended the suspect. MD Ambulance assessed the suspect’s injuries from the dog bite. The suspect was then transported to hospital for further medical attention. While in hospital the suspect spit on the escorting police officers. After receiving treatment for his injuries the suspect was transported to SPS Headquarters.
The 28 year old male suspect is being charged with Sexual Assault, Unlawful Confinement, Break and Enter and Assaulting the Police Officers.
The female victim was treated at the scene by MD Ambulance for a minor injury.
