Correction - Air Support Unit Assists In Recovery Of Stolen Vehcle

The first line of release 2017-0863 should read " Two" people are in custody..........

Three people are in custody after the driver of a vehicle failed to stop and attempted to evade police.   At 2:40 AM Sunday morning, Patrol officers attempted to stop a van on 20th Street near Ave. W.  The operator accelerated rapidly and attempted to evade the Patrol unit.  Officers were able to keep the suspect vehicle in sight until the Air Support Unit (ASU) was in position to observe.  At that point the ground pursuit was terminated and ASU continued to watch the vehicle as it continued at high speeds, side-swiping a second vehicle on 22nd Street at Whitney.

A few minutes later the van, which had been reported stolen from Cochin, Sk.,  was abandoned on Milton Street just east of Confederation Drive.

ASU was able to provide direction to Patrol units as well as a K9 Unit and the two people that ran from the vehicle were quickly located hiding nearby.  Unfortunately the suspects did not obey directions from officers.  Both were eventually taken into custody however both  were also treated for injuries consistent with dog bites.

A 28 year old man and a 19 year old woman both from  Battleford are facing charges, including possession of stolen property, evading police, and dangerous driving.    The male also had several unrelated warrants for his arrest.  They will see a Justice of the Peace later today.
