A 30-year-old man is facing charges after Police observed him driving erratically earlier this morning.
At approximately 2:30 a.m., November 27, 2017, a Canine Officer observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed with no tail lights in the area of 33rd Street West and Junor Avenue. The vehicle continued to drive at high rates of speed and disobey traffic signals. Police did not engage their emergency equipment, but continued to follow the vehicle's direction of travel and came upon evidence that it had struck city property and two trees. The Canine Officer located the vehicle, abandoned, in the 600 block of Coad Crescent.
A canine track located the driver hiding underneath a nearby deck. He was apprehended by the Police Service Dog after he refused to obey officers commands to exit his hiding spot. He was taken to hospital for treatment of dog bites. At the time of his arrest, he was found to be in possession of the keys to the vehicle. The 30-year-old man from Sherwood Park, AB, is facing charges of Dangerous Driving, Hit & Run and Breach of Undertaking. He was also arrested on outstanding warrants.
This incident remains under investigation.
