The Saskatoon Police Service will be participating in the inquest this week into the death of Jordan Lafond.
The inquest, held by the Office of the Chief Coroner of Saskatchewan, was called following the death of Mr. Lafond in October of 2016. Mr. Lafond was a passenger in a vehicle which was involved in an evade police incident and resulted in a single vehicle collision.
“The Saskatoon Police Service wishes to acknowledge and recognize a loss of life occurred,” says Chief Troy Cooper. “This inquest is part of a larger process to examine the incident and is neither the first step nor the last, but is an important one.”
Immediately following the incident then-Police Chief Clive Weighill initiated an internal investigation with independent Provincial oversight, the details of which will become part of this inquest proceedings.
“We recognize this is a stressful time for all involved including the family, our members and the larger community,” states Chief Cooper. “Our Service will continue to cooperate with the Office of the Chief Coroner during this process and remains committed to accountability and transparency.”
