At approximately 5:00 a.m., April 12, 2018, Patrol officers attempted to conduct a vehicle stop on an SUV swerving while driving on Avenue I South near 18th Street West. The suspect vehicle began driving erratically refusing to stop for Police. Tire deflation devices were deployed and the vehicle came to a stop at Avenue H South and 19th Street West. Two people were seen exiting the vehicle and attempting to flee on foot. Patrol officers took a female suspect into custody, but a male suspect continued to flee.
Members of the Canine Unit began tracking the suspect. He was eventually apprehended by a Police Service Dog and taken into custody. He was also found to have a reported gunshot wound to his leg from a previous incident. A firearm and ammunition were found in the vehicle. Medavie Health Services attended the scene and transported the man to hospital with minor injuries.
A 29 year old Saskatoon man is charged with Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, Evade Police, Dangerous Driving and Breach of Recognizance. He also had numerous outstanding warrants for his arrest.
A 19 year old Saskatoon woman is charged with Breach of Undertaking.
