Shortly after 12:00 p.m., January 2, 2018, Police responded to a report of a man harming himself in the 100 block of Clarence Avenue. Prior to Police arriving, the man was observed leaving the area and walking towards the river. Police located him on the river bank near 16th Street East. He was found to be in possession of a knife and refused to drop it when commanded by Officers to do so. A bean bag weapon and conducted energy weapon were deployed in attempt to stop the man from causing further harm to himself but both were unsuccessful. A second conducted energy weapon was successful and the man was taken into custody.
The man was transported to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
The incident will be reviewed in accordance to policy.
