A Saskatoon man is in custody facing a number of charges as a result of an incident that took place just before 8:00 AM Saturday in the 500 block of 4th Ave N.
A resident in the area called police and reported seeing a man rifling through vehicles in a parking lot. Officers responded and confronted a man matching the description.
Initially the suspect did not obey police instruction and squared off with an officer. The suspect was holding a knife in one hand and a pair of pliers in the other. A conductive electrical weapon (CEW) was deployed just as the suspect attempted to flee. The CEW missed the mark; however the suspect was apprehended by another officer on the scene.
There were no injuries.
The 41 year old will be appearing before a Justice of the Peace later today facing charges that include theft, mischief, assault police officer and several breaches of court orders related to unrelated charges.
