On June 9, 2018, at approximately 5:00 p.m. police responded to a 911 call of a home invasion in progress in the 100 block of Avenue L South. Information received was that weapons were involved and that two male suspects fled on foot.

The first male suspect is described as tall, approximately 6’3” and approximately 20 to 30 years old. He has long dark hair worn in a braid and dark facial hair on his chin. He was wearing a black muscle shirt, black shorts, a black hat, and sunglasses.

The second male suspect is described as shorter than 6’3”. He has shoulder length curly hair and beard. He was wearing a red hat and a red “ELMO” shirt depicting the Sesame Street character’s face.

Patrol attended and a canine track was initiated. While in pursuit of the criminals the SPS Canine rounded a corner of a building in the 100 block of Avenue M South and latched on to an unrelated 8 year old female. The SPS Canine was in a harness and on a leash; the dog released the female instantly at the handler’s command.

Police immediately aborted the track and requested medical assistance from Medavie; the female, accompanied by her mother, was transported to hospital for treatment. Injuries are not life-threatening. The injuries arising from the canine track will be investigated.
