Traffic restrictions have now been lifted on Spadina Crescent East. North and southbound vehicular and pedestrian traffic from 33rd Street East to Duchess Street are able to resume normal travel.
Pedestrian access to the train bridge itself is still restricted. CP Rail maintenance crews are at work repairing the guard rail and no pedestrian travel across the bridge is allowed. CP Police are on scene to ensure public safety on that infrastructure while repairs occur.
Traffic restrictions are currently in place for Spadina Crescent East underneath the train bridge at the Weir. Southbound Spadina Crescent traffic will be diverted at 33rd Street East, while northbound Spadina Crescent traffic will be diverted at Duchess Street. No pedestrian traffic will be allowed on the train bridge at this time and the staircase from the Weir parking lot up to the train bridge is temporarily closed.
At approximately 11:20 a.m., Saskatoon Police were alerted to sections of guard rail hanging down from the bridge. While an officer was investigating the matter, one of the sections came loose and dropped onto the police vehicle, causing damage to it. The decision was then immediately made, in consultation with CP Rail, to close the train bridge to pedestrian traffic and restrict vehicular traffic underneath it for public safety reasons. CP Rail has alerted a maintenance crew and will have the damage repaired as soon as possible.
Motorists and pedestrians are thanked in advance for their patience and cooperation while a resolution to this matter is worked on.
